“That decision was the direct cause of the Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Cruz said in an interview this week in his Senate office. The White House finally did restore the sanctions last week, but only after Russia had already invaded Ukraine. Needless to say, by launching the largest ground war in Europe since World War II, Putin has confirmed Cruz’s worst fears. Cruz’s concern was that allowing the pipeline to continue would encourage Vladimir Putin to act aggressively. It was a familiar role for the Republican from Texas, who as a freshman helped to force a government shutdown in a failed attempt to repeal Obamacare. So Cruz single-handedly blocked scores of Biden’s nominees from receiving floor votes to force them to reimpose sanctions on Nord Stream 2’s owner. The sanctions were waived when Joe Biden became president in order to repair relations with Moscow and appease European governments supportive of the project. Nord Stream 2, which would allow the country to export billions of dollars’ worth of natural gas to Western Europe while bypassing Ukraine, has been a single-minded focus of the senator who pushed legislation in 2019 that was signed by Donald Trump to sanction the pipeline’s owner. Sometimes we really all just need to smile and let go of the world. It’s really sweet to see the evolution of these characters, even Michael, as problematic as he can be sometimes. The relationship between Jim and Pam is top tier, and the friendships that are built throughout the show reminds me of some of my own. Look, The Office has its own issues and controversial episodes ( looking at you, “Diversity Day”) but there are plenty of wholesome moments throughout the show that will connect to you on a personal level. Every day there seems to be some new issue, but it always tends to get wrapped up near the end of the episode – whether it’s done well or a little messily. The Office is about the daily craziness that happens at Dundler Mifflin Paper Company, and the oddities which occur with the various coworkers and their boss, Michael Scott. It’s a simple show that just happens to revolve around the main characters working in a police station, but you’ll find yourself on the edge of your seat, hoping that these two characters make up, or the next two get together, or so much more. Everything feels so natural and rolls of the tongue, and even the most unrealistic moments feel strangely real because the delivery of these lines is great. Andy Samberg, Terry Crews, and everyone else has some of the best chemistry between an ensemble I have ever seen on TV. Well, exactly what you would expect, but even better.
What could happen from these two opposing personalities working together? The popular sitcom focuses around Jake Peralta, a detective at Brooklyn’s 99 Precinct (fictional, mind you), who’s a bit immature and often butts heads with his commanding officer, Captain Raymond Holt, who’s the complete opposite. In my eyes, Andy Samberg is always a win, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine is most certainly included in that.
